Sketch-y Friday

Hello there!

It's Friday today!  And that alone is cause for celebration!  Do you have plans for this weekend?  don't forget your camera, you don't want to miss any great scrap-able photos!

Here is your weekly sketch....

This week we are suggesting two photos to accompany this sketch, but you know you are always welcome to modify a sketch to suit your purposes.

Here is Eileen's take on the sketch.....
This is a beautiful layout with great colour balance and embellishment clusters as well as a super fun and eye catching title!  Thanks Eileen for always bringing my sketches to life!

Why don't you play along, you may even win a prize!

Here is a run down of the rules.  We are offering a little prize to one lucky scrapper that participates in at least 2 of this month's 4 sketches.  Just link up your creations at the bottom of each Sketch-y Friday post, all qualifying scrappers will be entered into a random draw for a prize.  Only one entry per sketch please.  You have until Tuesday July 31st at midnight to participate in any of July's sketch challenges, each linkup tool will remain open until that date!  But remember, you must play along with 2 different sketches for a chance to win!  (International participants may be required to pay some shipping fees. ) Who knows, maybe we will run this challenge month after month if you love it and keep playing along!

Tutorial Wednesday - Easel Card

Hello there!

We are half way through a fantastic week, and I have a cute tutorial to share with you!

Today we will be making an easel card.  Just a fun fold technique to jazz up your next card a little bit!

Start with a 4 x 8 inch piece of card stock and score at the centre point (4 inch) and then at the 6 inch mark.

The 4 inch piece is the interior of your card, go ahead and add patterned paper as you wish.  You will see I kept my design fairly simple, using a subtle pattern ad the base so that I can write on it when I give it away.

You will need something with a bit of dimension to act as a 'holder' on the interior base of your card.  I have chosen to add a sentiment to a little die cut and pop it up using pop dots for mine. This will hold your card in the open position for display.

You get a better idea of what I mean here, I also added a couple of layered die cut flowers to mine just for fun!

You get a better idea of how your card will sit in this photograph.

Now we are going to address the front.  I am using another patterned paper to decorate the front of my card.

Just be sure to also crease / score this patterned paper so that your card sits properly.

Now you can add whatever image you desire to the front of your card.  Or even a die cut.

And don't forget to glam it up... more flowers and some bling are what I went with for my card.

Here is a side view for you.

A little close up.

And another.

And here is a full picture of my card.  It will sit flat in an envelope by unfolding the top / front of the card.

Sketch-y Friday

Hello all!

Welcome to another Sketch-y Friday post!  This week's sketch features a single photo, but you know you can always mix things up a bit.  the sketch is only a suggestion.

This is Eileen's sweet take on the sketch.  Such lovely feminine colours, the glittery alphas are darling too, and we love this line of product from Dear Lizzy.
Would you like a chance to win a prize?

Inspiration On Thursday

Hello all!

I am not sure how she does it, but Elaine has been busy scrapping again and has some more inspiration for you!

Elaine has a real knack for incorporating bling flourishes into her layouts.  She definitely inspires me.

A great use of border punches on this layout.  I will have to remember to mix and match and use more than one on a layout.

Tutorial Wednesday - Interactive Card

hello and happy Wednesday!

I have a fun card technique to share with you this week!

I created this card for a project for my personal blog last Friday.
What I didn't share then was this fun technique on the inside.
A fun little interactive insert!
To make one of these interactive cards, you will simply create a card as you usually do.  Then cut a 3 inch circle out out cardstock that is the same colour as your card base.

Draw a spiral with several coils onto the circle.

Now trim along this pencil line

Using a strong adhesive adhere the centre of the coil to the top of the inside of the card.

Now add some strong adhesive to the top of the tail of the coil.

Close your card.

Press firmly.
When you open your card back up, it should look like this.

Now start adding fun little embellies that coordinate with the theme of your card.  Make sure that all of the adhesive you use on the embellies does not overlap the coils, or your card will not open properly.  If you have trouble with this you can do what I did to the little wooden sail boat and add a little punched circle behind the boat and the coil, it coves the stray adhesive and enhances the boat at the same time.

Don't forget your sentiment!

Hello all!

Happy Friday, I hope you have some wonderful weekend plans!  Do they include scrapping?  Feel like a sketch to play with?  Well you are in luck!

I do not usually do the diagonal photo thing, but I know many people who love them so I thought I would give a nod to them this week.

And as always Eileen has a beautiful take on this sketch for you....

I love these closely cropped photos and the fun sun and cloud embellies and as always her large title!

Would you like a chance to win a prize?

Inspiration on Thursday

Hi there!

It's Thursday is this week that seems to be flying by!  I hope everyone's summer is going swimmingly.

You know what Thursday means right?  It means we have some amazing inspiration for you.  Check out these beautiful layouts by Elaine......

Love the purples on this layout in contrast with all of the white in the photo, simply darling.  And look at the little piece of purple twine... such a simple touch, so pretty and whimsical, though we all know it was placed with great care and precision.
Darling colour for darling girls and the baby buggy is such a sweet touch.

And this sweet layout was created by talented 6 year old Zoe....

I love the handwritten title, truly it's own sweet piece of memorabilia.

Are you creating sweet layouts?  Don't forget you can email them to me here, to have them shown off on our Thursday blog posts.

Tutorial Wednesday - Circle Pinwheel

Hi there!

Today is Wednesday and that means I have a tutorial for you, have a look at the sweet and simple little pinwheel.....

I thought I would do a little spin on a pinwheel (pun intended) and make it circular.

I started with a 2 inch punch and a scrap of double sided paper.
Using a pencil I marked my circle into quarters.
Next, I snipped at each mark ending just shy of centre.
Now you will need to pierce a hole in the centre as well as to the right of each pencil mark.
Working from the back insert a brad into the centre hole, then working around the circle gently bend and feed the brad into each hole.   I know you may want to work from the front so that the decorative part of the brad is front and centre, but it is really a lot easier to work from the back.
So you can solve the problem of the brad prongs being on top by adding a pretty little button to the centre of your pinwheel.
In case you wondered, these are the Copics I used to colour this sweet little image.

Sketch-y Friday

Hello all!

Welcome to another edition of our Sketch-y Friday post.  As is my recent tradition, we are starting the month with a 2 page layout for you....

This  layout was inspired by both my love for pennants and my newest passion for wallet sized photos printed from my new Epson Picturemate Charm printer!

Here is what Eileen created to insprie you....

I am loving the soft fall colours, the ribbon element and the hand stitching.

Tutorial Wednesday - Crepe paper flowers with Epiphany

Hello all!

Happy 4th of July to our American friends!

Today I am going to share with you a fun way to create a flower for your project using crepe paper and an Epiphany.

First, gather your supplies.  You will need crepe paper (any colour, I chose white as it will give me the option of misting it if I choose.), a flower centre (the Epiphany is perfect for this as you can coordinate your flower center with your project, and a punched circle a little bit smaller than what you want your finished flower to measure.
Cover your punched circle with tacky adhesive of some sort, with liquied glue or really sticky glue dots work well.
Now start pleating the crepe paper around the circle.
 Keep going.....
An now you are done, cut off the excess.
Add your flower centre and voila!  You can see this make a fairly substantial sized flower, you can make a smaller one by folding the crepe paper lengthwise in half, or a two layer flower by folding the crepe paper a little shy of halfway.

Go ahead, give it a try... it's quick and easy and you probably already have everything you need!
