Tip and Technique Wednesday

Hello and Happy Wednesday!

I have a really quick technique for you today, paper collars or mini doilies of sorts to layer with your flowers or other embellishments.  You know that I love to layer embellishments, right.   Well, if you do too, then this is right up your alley!

To get started you will need a strip of paper and a border punch with a mid sized somewhat rounded shape to it.  Then punch along the edge of the paper.
Trim the punched piece into sections, between the pattern repeats.  you will need 8 pieces.
Start layering the pieces up, like this, until you have 4 pieces layered with a punched edge on each side.
Now go around again, layering the pieces with the punched edges on the diagonal.  And this is what you end up with.
Layer your little doily / paper collar with stickers or flowers etc. to create a dimensional embellishment.  This is a great way to fill a space if your original embellishment ins`t quite large enough for the space you want to fill..

I tried this with a larger border punch, as well.
I really like the results but found I only needed 4 pieces and could eliminate the diagonal pieces.

Now I feel like creating something fun to stick this on!

Thanks for popping by today to see what technique I am sharing!

Inspiration on Thursday

Hello all!

I just wanted to pop in quickly and give you all a bit of scrappy inspiration.  This mini album was designed by Eileen as a gift to a friend.  It is absolutely stunning and i cannot image anyone of us not wanting to give or receive something similar.

Many of these layout could be re-created in a 12 x 12 format, but why don't you give a mini album a try.  It's a great project to do at a crop, as you can complete it in one day!

Do you have a layout or card that you would like to see posted here to inspire others?  The only stipulation is it must be created with at least 75% of product we offer in our store.  Email your creations to me here to have them featured on the blog.

Thanks for popping by today, and thanks to Eileen for letting us share her album!

Tips and Techniques Wednesday

Hello all!

Can you believe it is Wednesday already, this week is flying by!  Not to mention, so is August, it's the 24th, yikes!  It won't be long before the kiddies are back in school and we all resume some semblance of normal routine.  Not sure how I feel about that.

Well at least it's tip day, that's good news right?

Today's tip is a little of a spin off of all of the great corrugated embellishments available on the market.  But what happens if you do not have the perfect corrugated embellie for your project, or one is not available to purchase.   Well, I'm sure by now you know the answer to that question... I am going to tell you how to make a knock off corrugated embellie that is super cute and super easy!

First gather your supplies, you will need your favourite die cutting tools, either something like a Spellbinders die, Cuttlebug die or a Cricut to cut out whatever shape you feel will most enhance your project.  You will also need Kraft cardstock, a paper crimper and a ink pad (I really like using light colours for this but you can really use anything that will compliment your design|).

 Now cut your desired shapes.
And run them through the crimper.
This is what you will end up with.
Next you will ink the edges and then adhere them to your project.
Here's another view, see all that dimension, isn't it awesome.
Thanks for popping by for another Wednesday tutorial!

August Featured Customer

Hello all!

It's time for one of my favourite posts of the blog, Our Featured Customer!  This month Kim Morrow has volunteered to be in the spotlight!

Meet Kim.....

Now let's take a minute to get to know Kim a little better.....

1. How long have you been scrapbooking?

I have been scrapbooking since 2002, shortly after my daughter was born. I was given a Creative Memories album as a baby shower gift and I was hooked.
2. Do you also create hand made cards?
I have been creating cards for a while. I love using up all my scraps. I recently have been stamping images on my cards and colouring them using markers, pencil crayons. I love the results!
3. Who is your favourite subject to scrapbook? My husband, Rick, and my two children (Leah and Nicholas) are my favourite subjects to scrapbook. I scrap about our daily lives, and special events.
4. Where do you find your scrapbooking inspiration?
I find my inspiration from scrapbooking magazines, the Internet, blogs and sketchbooks. I love to take someone else's idea and then make them my own.
5. Where do you scrapbook?
I am very lucky to have my own room which has been described as "Organized Chaos". Everything has a place and is neatly organized into bins, folders and various storage devices...and then I start scrapping and my supplies overflow off the desk and onto the floor. Part of the fun is putting it all back in its place. It helps me keep track of my supplies and gets my creative juices flowing for the next project.
6. What is one of your current favourite products?
My favourite product is Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads. I love to ink the edges of papers, stickers, chipboard, etc. My favourite is "Vintage Photo".
7. Do you have a blog that we can share with our readers?
I don't have a blog...yet!

Here are a few of Kim's favourite layouts....
I love this layout for many reasons, aside from being a beautiful layout, Kim wasn't afraid to inject some pink into a boy's layout.  And I love the camera angle on the photograph.

Keeping this layout fairly simple emphasizes the background paper's relationship with the photo's subject matter.  I think we should all take one of these photos on vacation!

Black and white photos always look great on colourful layouts.  And this layout is super sweet, second only to the sweetie in the photos.

This double page layout has a great use of space and I love that Kim was able to use so many photos without it feeling busy.

Thank you so much Kim for playing along this month!
If you or anyone you know would like to be a featured customer, please send me an email here.  I am looking for a customer to be featured for the month of September (and beyond).    I would consider it a personal favour if you would help me keep this feature going.  I hope you all love it as much as I do.  Once you sign up to be a featured customer, I will let you know which month you will be featured.   Then, you can expect to receive a follow up email a few weeks before your turn, detailing what we would need from you.  Sign up today to be placed on the list!

Thanks for stopping by today!
