Recycling Silica Packs | Tutorial

Hello friends!

Laura here with a little tutorial for you today, about recycling Silica packs.  These little packs come in new bags and purses among other things, and I often wonder what I could do with them besides throw them out.  So I decided to play with some to see what I could come up with.

I honestly didn't really know exactly what was inside those little packs, but when I opened one up I thought that it could make great "sequin pocket" fillers with the addition of a little colour..

I used some Copic marker refill ink, but you could use any liquid ink type product like a stamp pad re-inker.

I used a recycled clam shell package to mix the silica and ink together.  I only needed a few drops of ink.

I mixed the ink into the silica really well.

Then I dumped it onto a paper towel to absorb the excess ink.

I used another small piece of paper towel to dry the silica.  I love that the silica has some colour variations and so it take son different tones as it absorbs the ink.  The silica dries lighter than the ink colour so you may want to consider that when deciding on a colour.

Once that was done I sewed the silica into a little acetate pocket to use as an embellishment on a future project.

This was super easy to do, it really takes no time at all and will be a cute addition to a card or layout.  You could even mix the silica with sequins or small wood elements when you add it to a pocket.
